Answer: No. In general, registration is voluntary. Copyright exists from the moment the work is created. You will have to register, however, if you wish to bring a lawsuit for infringement of a U.S. work.



Question: What is the Cataloging in Publication (CIP) obligation?

Answer: A CIP obligation is limited to those publishers who have entered a contractual agreement with the Library of Congress. In exchange for the Library providing preliminary cataloging information to the publisher for works submitted to the CIP program.

 

Question: Should I use the same address that I use for mandatory deposit?

Answer: No. If you choose to register your work, send the work, completed application form.
